How Much is the CA Minimum Wage

The state of California is one of the few states within the United States that has established a minimum wage that exceeds the national minimum wage standards. As of 2010, the minimum wage in California is $8.00 for every hour that an individual works, making it 75 cents higher than the national minimum wage.
 
 
The large majority of employees working in the state of California must be paid at least the CA minimum wage, though there are some exceptions. Prior to the increase that made the CA minimum wage $8.00 per hour, the minimum wage rate was set at $7.50 per hour.
 
 
Some cities within California, including San Francisco, have established a minimum wage that is higher than the state specified minimum wage. In San Francisco, the current minimum wage is $9.79, making it one of the highest minimum wage rates in the United States. 
 
 
The large majority of employees must be provided with the CA minimum wage of $8.00 per hour. However, California law recognizes some exceptions to this standard. For example, individuals who work waiting tables in restaurants are not required to be provided with the specified wages, as long as they are making enough money in tips to cover the value of the minimum wage rate.
 
 
In addition, apprentices or employees who are training is not required to be given minimum wage. If an individual is employing his/her child, parent, or spouse, he/she does net need to pay these individuals minimum wage. Camp employees can be paid below minimum wage, as can babysitters. An individual's age may also determine whether or not he/she is eligible for minimum wage.

In the state of Florida, the Florida Minimum Wage Act governs the specified minimum wage rates. The Florida minimum wage is currently identical to the national minimum wage. Therefore, individuals who are employed in the state of Florida are usually eligible to receive the minimum wage of $7.25 for every hour worked.
In Florida, the law states that employers are required to pay the federal minimum wage rate if the federal rate is higher, and the state minimum wage rate, if the state specified rate is higher. As of 2010, the Florida minimum wage rate was equal to the federal minimum wage rate.
Not all individuals who are employed within the state of Florida are eligible to receive minimum wage rates. If an individual does not meet the eligibility requirements, he/she can legally be paid less than the Florida minimum wage and the national minimum wage. 
There are certain individuals who do not qualify to receive the designated Florida minimum wage rates. For example, the Florida Minimum Wage Act states that farm workers, seasonal workers, babysitters, and newspaper deliverers are not required to be provided with minimum wage rates. 
Therefore, employers are able to pay individuals working in these positions less than the minimum wage. In addition, individuals who are working in positions in which they receive tips for their service, only need to be paid $4.23 for each hour that they work. The national minimum wage for 16 year olds is determined by the specified federal youth minimum wage. Due to the specific regulations surrounding the employment of minors, the youth minimum wage is significantly less than the minimum wage for adult employees. Each state is able to establish its own youth minimum wage. 
 
 
Minimum Wage for 18 Year Olds
 
 
The United States government has established legislation that exempts individuals from minimum wage requirements until they reach 20 years of age. Therefore, the federal minimum wage for 18 year olds is $4.25 for each hour worked. This may very from one state to another, as a state may choose to increase its youth minimum wage.
