Who Is Evan Bayh

Evan Bayh is one of the individuals who were elected to act as an Indiana Senator in the United States Senate. Senator Bayh is a Democratic Senator. He has represented Indiana in the U.S. Senate since he was initially elected in 1999. He has been reelected to the Senate to serve multiple terms.
Prior to serving in the U.S. Senate, Senator Evan Bayh acted as Indiana's Secretary of State, and was subsequently the Governor of Indiana. Throughout his political career, Senator Bayh promoted fiscal discipline, decreased government spending, reform to the state welfare system, and tax cuts.
Before he was selected to serve as an Indiana Senator, he accepted a position at the School of Business within Indiana University. Representing Indiana in the Senate runs in Bayh's family, as his father once held the same Senate seat. 
Senator Bayh is currently serving on many different Senate Committees and Subcommittees. He is a member of the Armed Services Committee, the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, the Special Committee on Aging, the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee, and the Select Committee on Intelligence.
In addition, Senator Bayh serves on nine different Subcommittees, including the Energy Subcommittee, the Financial Institutions Subcommittee, and the Emerging Threats and Capabilities Committee.
He acts as the Chairman of the Readiness and Management Support Subcommittee and the International Trade and Finance Subcommittee. Senator Bayh has announced his plans to retire from the Senate and he will not run for a Senate seat in the 2010 Senate elections.
