Wiedemann Wysocki National Finance Council Award

The Wiedemann Wysocki National Finance Council Award is issued to trial lawyers by the American Association for Justice. The award is named after lawyers Fritz Wiedemann and James Anthony Wysocki, both members of the American Association for Justice who died in a plane crash en route to an organization event.

The stated purpose of the Wiedemann Wysocki National Finance Council Award is to honor members of the American Association of Justice who have exceeded requirements in promoting both the best interests of the civil justice system as well as those of the organization giving the award. The Wiedemann Wysocki National Finance Council Award was first awarded in 2006 to 11 recipients. In 2007, 14 people were awarded the Wiedemann Wysocki National Finance Council Award. In 2008, the number of people who received a Wiedemann Wysocki National Finance Council Award was reduced to eight. In 2009, the number of people who received a Wiedemann Wysocki National Finance Council Award was reduced in even further to three.

In 2010, a marked increase in the number of recipients of the Wiedemann Wysocki National Finance Council Award occurred when it was issued to 51 recipients. Another notable feature of that year's awards was that for the first time, the Wiedemann Wysocki National Finance Council Award was granted not to an individual but to an organization, in this case the Southern Trial Lawyers Association. The Southern Trial Lawyers Association was honored for its work in providing attorneys in 13 member states based in the South with support, assistance and continuing education. The Southern Trial Lawyers Association was also presented with the Wiedemann Wysocki National Finance Council Award in recognition of its annual conference, held since 1987 in New Orleans. In 2011, the Wiedemann Wysocki National Finance Council Award was awarded to ten recipients.

In addition to the Wiedemann Wysocki National Finance Council Award, the American Association for Justice presents a number of other awards. One of these is the AAJ Paralegal of the Year Award, presented to paralegals who have been members of the organization for at least a year and who do not belong to the Paralegal Advisory Task Force.

Another award presented by the American Association For Justice is the Steven J. Sharp Public Service Award, which is awarded on an annual basis to trial lawyers who work with state and national legislators in crafting and improving legislation. This award is also granted to attorneys who work with public organizations on consumer rights issues.

Another award presented by the American Association For Justice is the Community Champion Award. This is presented on an annual basis to member lawyers who do work on behalf of injured consumers. Another award presented by the American Association For Justice is the Soaring Eagles Award, presented to successful minority lawyers. The American Association for Justice also issues the Marie Lambert Award to outstanding female lawyers on an annual basis.
